| 6. Click the
Advanced button Oh, you're getting into the nerd-zone now. Fear not, brave warrior. If you screw up, just reinstall Windows (kidding). |
| 7. Click
the DNS tab "DNS" stands for Domain Name System; it is how all machines on the Internet find each other using names like "udrive.win.psu.edu" instead of 146.186.157.109. 8. Click on the radio-button next to "Append these DNS suffixes (in order):" (if it is not already selected). 9. Click the Add button to add a suffix. |
| 10. Enter win.psu.edu and
click the Add button. 11. You may wish to add other suffixes such as psu.edu. |
| 12. Click on OK, then OK, then Close. Close the Network Connections window That's all. You do not need to reboot or restart the network. Note that the computer these screen shots were taken from does not have DNS servers defined. That is because it is using DHCP to get its IP address and addresses of DNS servers. If you are not dialing in and are not using DHCP, you should have several DNS servers defined. See your network administrator for advice on which to use. Addresses in win.psu.edu should be resolved by any and every DNS server. |
