Connecting to a file server is called mapping a network drive or connecting to a share.
Why: you can assign a "network share" to a drive letter, and have it connect automatically each time you log on. You don't have to map the u-drive to use it; your folders and sub-folders can be accessed via \\udrive.win.psu.edu\users\x\y\xyz123, but usually mapping a drive letter is easier.
| 1. Open My Computer Pick My Computer from the Start menu. If you already have Windows Explorer open you can use that. Note that the Windows Explore is NOT the Internet Explorer. |

| 3. Select Drive
Letter Pick a drive letter from the Map Network Drive dialog (use drop-down list or type the letter). It doesn't matter what letter you use. "U" is suggested since that is what is used in the labs. |

| 5. Check Reconnect at
Logon If you check this option, the drive will be mapped automatically next time you log on. |

Click on "Connect using a different user name." If you were already logged into the WIN domain, you wouldn't have to do this. Maybe someday. |
|
| 7. Enter dce.psu.edu\<your
userid> Enter dce.psu.edu\xyz123 next to "User name:" (where "xyz123" is YOUR Access Account userid). If you've done this before, you might be able to pick the user name from the drop-down list. |

9. Press OK, then Finish. A window will open with all the "root" folders; you can navigate down to yours by clicking on each folder or by entering U:\x\y\xyz123 in the address field of the folder window. |
